19 February 2013 - Here are a couple of interesting links we found recently which we felt were important enough to share, something every dog owner should be aware of regarding vaccinations, but something vets and the companies that make the vaccines do not want you to know. Please feel free to share this information with other dog owners.

A Photo of Basset Puppies 20 January 2013 - A good friend has just had a litter of puppies born on the 10th January. 3 boys and 3 girls, we think they will be predominantly black blankets as the mother is black and her parents were also very black. Both parents have been BVA tested for Glaucoma and are Unaffected. The sire is a grandson of our Houndsbay Wild Hearted Son (Dylan).

For more info on this litter please contact Philip Matthews-Brown on 01353 698498.

All puppies from this litter are now reserved.

26 September 2012 - Statement: Houndsbay Wild Hearted Son was tested for Goniodysgenesis on 23/11/2011 by a BVA vet. At the end of the test, that took over 50 minutes to complete, the vet’s opinion was that Dylan was ”Clinically Affected”. This as I am sure you understand was a great shock to us as he had offspring already tested Unaffected, as was his sire.

Since then further offspring and now a grandson have all tested Unaffected G. As a result we decided to have Dylan retested by an eminent specialist BVA panel vet, who has extensive knowledge of Bassets eyes. This test was conducted on the 23/09/2012 and he was in her opinion ”Clinically Unaffected” and should never have been originally diagnosed otherwise. The only reason that she could give on the previous misdiagnosis was that Dylan has a lot of pigmentation, this could have been confused with narrowing of the ligament and poor drainage. In her opinion there is no reason why Dylan should not be used to sire future litters of outstanding puppies.

Sadly, although an appeal process is available through the BVA and The KC, any appeal has to be made within 28 days of the original test. We have missed this and as such the KC will not overturn the original recorded result. The BVA will of course have a copy of the retest and a copy of this retest certificate will be supplied with any puppies we breed from Dylan. A copy will be given to the owners of any visiting bitches when Dylan is used for stud and will form part of the Stud Contract.

This episode clearly demonstrates the difficulty with this test as at present it is one of examination and interpretation. Hopefully a DNA test will shortly become available, but until then as responsible breeders we are committed to health testing and will continue to test all breeding stock.

A copy of Dylan’s current certificate can be found on his paragraph on our Male’s page.

A Photo of Tallulah 17 July 2012 - We have a 5 year old Lemon and White spayed bitch sadly looking for a new home, her name is Tallulah and she is litter sister to our Dylan.

Lula is great with children, dogs and good off the lead. Overall she is in good health, she does get a seasonal grass allergy during the summer but this is easily managed with regular bathing.

Lula would make someone a lovely pet either with another hound or on her own but she must go to an experienced basset home. She is currently still with her owners in Diss, Norfolk for more info on Lula please call us on Tel: 01536 760304

13 August 2012 - Lula has now found a lovely new home with Tilly’s owners from our March 2009 litter and another basset called Izzy.

A Photo of Flavio 09 July 2012 - Flavio won Best Puppy Dog at the East of Eng show on 6th July, then 2 days later went on to win Reserve Best Dog and Best Puppy in Show at the South of Eng Basset Hound Club show. Houndsbay Daphne also won Reserve Best Puppy Bitch at the same show.

Here is the video from the South of Eng BHC.

A Photo of Flavio 03 July 2012 - We had an amazing day at the Windsor Championship show, Flavio won BP & Houndsbay Daphne from Nelly's litter owned by our good friend Belinda won Best Puppy Bitch. If that wasnt exciting enough! Flavio was shortlisted from 21 puppies to the final 8 in the Puppy Hound Group.

Here is a video of Flavio's brilliant day, we are very proud of him.

27 May 2012 - We  have an affiliated link with this very good  Pet Insurance they offer up to £10,000 cover each year (most of the other more well known Pet insurers only offer £3,000-6,000 per year). They will cover your pet for life providing they are insured before their 8th birthday. Competitive monthly payments of around £28-£32 depending on age of your pet.

We recently rang some of the well known Pet insurers including some of the supermarket ones to get an idea of what they charge and was quoted between £50-£70 per month, quite  a difference and they were offering less cover!! Vetsmedivcover also settle claims quickly and efficiently.

For more info please go to the link using our source code VM998901 so they know you heard about them via us.

A Photo of Bassett Puppy 07 May 2012 - We are currently looking for a home for an 18 month old neutered male, he comes from our November 2010 litter. He is a red blanket, good on the lead and off and is very a friendly boy, loves other dogs and is good with children. He would be fine with another hound or on his own, the most important thing is that he goes to an experienced basset home.

For more information please call us on 01536 760304.

14 May 2012 - Claude has now found a nice new home.

06 May 2012 - Our new male Flavio Funny Hunters of Woods is now on our website.

17 March 2012 - The Basset Hound Club and The Basset Hound Health Group have issued this joint statement regarding Crufts 2012.

17 March 2012 - We have updated one of our health pages as it seems there was a lot of misinformation going around after Crufts 2012 about Basset hounds. A big thank you to Veterinarian, Mr Rudy Smits DVM who is also a top judge and well respected breeder and exhibitor of Basset hounds (he has the famous Van Grunsven Bassets who are well known all over Europe) for writing our new page on Entropion & Ectropion or just Haw?

A Photo of our latest litter 11 December 2011 - We are delighted to announce the arrival of our latest litter, the first in just over a year. Houndsbay Jezebeth (Nelly) had 6 lovely pups on 8th December, 4 girls and 2 boys all Tri colour.

We have a tri dog available from this litter, experienced homes always preferred for more info please contact us Tel: 01536 760304.

15 January 2012 - All pups from this litter have now been reserved.

06 November 2011 - This excellent website has been created by 8 of the UK Basset hound clubs - Health group to help give people information about bassets in general, the health of the breed and to inform people looking for a puppy what to look out for in finding a reputable breeder.  Its a very well designed website and certainly worth a look!

17 October 2011 - Daisy is now being cared for by John and Shirley Sewell from Basset Welfare covering the East Midlands area.

A Photo of DaisyA Photo of Daisy 23 September 2011 - We are currently fostering an 8 1/2 year old lemon and white spayed female Basset hound. We found her in a private rescue centre (not Basset Welfare). We took her in as she needed an experienced home in the breed she has been with us a couple of weeks as I write this. We have managed to obtain her full medical history and background so now know a lot more about her.

She is a very active and fit hound and enjoys her walks very much. She has been great with our pack, here is a short video of her with our hounds, as you can see she is somewhat different in type to our hounds, this is because she is Welsh bred.

She would suit an active retired couple as she is not an old 8 year old, she can be aloof  with strangers but is fine once she gets to know you, she needs to be in an experienced basset home one that understands the breed. She is very friendly and enjoys a cuddle, she is not keen on children so must not go to a home with small children around.

If you feel you could offer Daisy a suitable home were she can spend the rest of her days then please contact us Tel: 01536 760304.

We are still looking for that special home for Daisy, we have had some interest but sadly so far not quite the kind of home  we are looking for. Here is a new video of Daisy enjoying the sunshine in her favourite spot under a tree.

A Photo of WilmaA Photo of Wilma 26 July 2011 - A friend has a 10 month old Lemon and white bitch that is looking for a nice pet home. She is KC registered & endorsed 'progeny not eligible for registration'.

She is a very sweet girl, loves people, is fine off the lead with other dogs etc. Sadly she has to be re-homed as she doesn't get on with a couple of our friends dogs and its causing unrest within her pack.

Wilma would be best suited to a mature family, with experience in the breed and would probably benefit from being an only dog. For more info on Wilma please contact Belinda directly on Tel: 01488 71819.

She has now found a nice new home.

15 May 2011 - We have discovered this great pet insurance, for more info please click on the image on the left.

A Photo of Vienna 19 April 2011 - Now Vienna is 5 months old she has joined the pack.  Here is a short video of her with the rest of our hounds.
